Brighton fans comments ahead of Newcastle game – Not happy with Chris Hughton (or anything else…)

Brighton fans are not very happy.

Not so long ago theirteam looked as though they simply had to stumble over the finishing line to ensure another season of Premier League football.

However, they have since then attempted to engineer a quite spectacular relegation against the odds.

The last six games have brought them only one point.

Attempting to eke out a point here or there, Brighton have become ever more conservative in their approach, it now being over nine hours since they last scored a goal.

Chris Hughton has become a target of much of their frustrations judging by the comments below.

Brighton fans not sure now even whether they should stick or twist when it comes to keeping/changing these ultra-negative tactics.

Half an hour before facing Newcastle, you can only imagine the state of Brighton fans if Cardiff have won at Fulham and are level on points with the south coast club.

Could be an interesting day/night when we head to Brighton on Saturday…

Brighton fans comment via their North Stand Chat message board:

‘Hughton has turned us into an embarrassment, the worst team in the PL right now and quite possibly the worst side to watch out of all 92 clubs.’

‘Absolutely! We’ve spent £50m on some absolute tat.’

‘What makes you think we will suddenly change form/tactics? If we couldn’t get up for the Cardiff game why will Newcastle be any different from any of the games this year!

Hughton hasn’t got it in him to motivate a win!’

‘We won’t win and that’s all there is to it. In fact I might go all out on a limb here and say we won’t score either!!

Let’s get on with relegation, a new manager and a new team. I don’t want to watch this one any longer, it’s embarrassing. We shouldn’t be in the PL, it’s not in our DNA and has been the most hopeless, predictive football to watch (relative to the division) since 97/98. Can’t wait to get back into the Champ and see some entertainment again.’

‘I just cannot see us scoring…I just hope they don’t but another 88 min goal will do me in!’

‘The football’s clearly not been great, but then we are in an almighty scrap. Hughton did EXACTLY the same when he first arrived here – set us up to be hard to beat, playing some dreadful football, and it just about stopped us dropping into League One.’

‘I would not be surprised if Cardiff get something at Fulham maybe a point.I think we are going to have to beat Newcastle. I just can’t see us getting any other points whereas Cardiff have some hope in all their games.’

‘So where’s the hope we’ll beat Newcastle coming from? An own goal and another Alamo 90mins? I think it’s too much to ask our defence to keep a clean sheet game after game after game in the hope we get 38 nil nils a season.’

‘My worry is if Newcastle score first, we seemed to fall apart once Cardiff…. and Bournemouth did that. We need to keep it tight and get one on the break.’

‘CH has been a legend for us but whatever the result on a Saturday his time has come to an end.’

‘The issue for me is that we are incapable of attacking football.

God help us if they score first.’

‘I think it will be more about our mentality than anything. We need to outwork and hassle Newcastle and hope that we can produce some quality. We must score the first goal too, so we won’t go gun Ho. the crowd need to get behind the team like never before.’

‘Hughton has managed to get the defensive steel back in us and has all the players finally fighting for this.
GET BEHIND THE TEAM !!!

‘We can’t get ‘behind’ the team; they play so deep!’

‘Pretty sure Newcastle will approach the game in exactly the same way as Bournemouth and Cardiff did, with much the same result.’

‘I think this Saturday is more a test of fans than Hughton.

So will the crowd stand by the team no matter how the manager sets up the team and who he picks?’

‘They’ve shown the last 2 games they are fighting. Least we can do is do the same rather than everyone bitching about CH like girls.

That can come later.’

‘My hope is he sets us up in a way which takes the game to Newcastle and we show a positive intent to score. I think we have more chance of that succeeding than the ‘park the bus and hope for a goal from set piece’ approach.’

‘I am not in the Hughton out camp but I could easily be swayed.’

‘My frustration stems from seeing this a long long way off, pre Xmas in fact when I really wanted us to change manager. Trouble then was people decried anyone suggesting it e.g. ‘we’ve just won three 1 nils’, ‘we beat Palace’, ‘there are 3 worse teams than us’, ‘we’ve more points than last season at this stage’ etc etc.

But those that damned anyone suggestion CH might take us down can’t have it both ways now he’s on the cusp of doing this. We should have been braver several months ago.’

‘We haven’t scored for 6 (six) games!! I could count the number of shots on those games on one hand!
It didn’t ‘just go against us’ against Cardiff! We got what we deserved …… nothing! We amassed 1 shot on target!’

‘There is nothing to suggest we’ll score and get 3 points against Newcastle. A nil nil is what I’m hoping for and a Cardiff defeat obviously.’
