Atsu’s time at Newcastle
Christian Atsu made the permanent switch to Newcastle in July of 2017 for a fee believed to be around £6.75m.
Atsu had spent the previous season on loan at the Magpies from Chelsea before signing permanently.
In total, Atsu has featured 96 times across all competitions for Newcastle.
In those 96 games, Atsu has scored eight and assisted five.
The 27-year-old was once again a key member of Newcastle’s squad last season, playing 32 games.
Atsu is now currently on international duty with Ghana.
Whilst playing in the African Cup of Nations, Atsu has spoken out about his future.
The forward claims he is very happy at Newcastle but especially happy with Rafa Benitez:
“I’m very happy at Newcastle and I’m happy with the fans. I’m especially happy with (Rafa) Benitez, the staff and everybody at the club.
“I’d like to stay there as many years as possible but it will depend on me and my performances.
“I just need to do my work, do my job, and as many years as I want I believe I can stay, if I play really good.”As quoted by Sky Sports.
Benitez to leave Newcastle?
While Atsu seems content to stay at the North East club for now, his mind may be changed if Rafa Benitez leaves.
Benitez’s current Newcastle contract ends on June 30th 2019 and there have been no major signs he will put pen to paper over a new deal.
According to Sky Sports, Benitez is considering an offer from Chinese club Dalian Yifang.
The offer from Dalian Yifang is believed to be worth a staggering £12m-per-year.
