Gebhart leaving Montpelier Development Corp – Vermont Biz

Vermont Business Magazine Laura Gebhart, Montpelier Development Corporation’s (MDC) Executive Director announced her resignation this week. Gebhart is stepping down to take a field hockey coaching position at a Division I university in Rhode Island. Gebhart has a strong connection to the sport, having volunteered with University of Vermont Field Hockey program this past year, and previously played on the US Women’s National Field Hockey team and for Penn State University, while earning her degree in Community, Environment, and Development.

William Kaplan, MDC Board Chair commented, “We knew we were hiring a champion athlete, and so are excited for Laura to return to the pursuit of a championship as a coach.” He added, “Laura has been instrumental in shaping MDC. She leaves the organization in a stronger place than ever before. We have a talented and dedicated board and look forward to how MDC will continue to grow in this next iteration.”

Gebhart said, “I am truly grateful for my time in Montpelier. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from dedicated business owners, city staff, elected officials, community partners, and residents. I wish the community continued success as I look forward to the next chapter in my career.” Gebhart has led MDC through a period of growth, increasing the organization’s reach into the community. MDC has been a quiet force behind many projects, contributing most notably to Caledonia Spirits’ new distillery, Stonecliff Animal Surgical Center and The Garage Cultural Center, and implementation of Montpelier’s Tax Increment Financing District.

The Montpelier Development Corporation exists to ensure the long-term viability and economic success of Montpelier. It does so by providing comprehensive support to existing and new businesses, championing meaningful development projects, and informing and engaging the public in economic development. MDC was born out of a citizen-driven process, the Economic Development Strategic Plan for the City of Montpelier and is funded by the City of Montpelier. The organization is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors from the community that represents a broad range of expertise.

The Board will announce their transition plans soon. Gebhart’s last day is May 10.
