Glimpses of Sarri football make Chelsea fans hope that things can get better

Nobody was really sure what to expect from Chelsea in this game. The Blues have been so up and down this season that it was easy to predict a heavy loss – or an easy win.

In the end, after a tense first half that saw the Gunners threaten repeatedly, Maurizio Sarri’s men came out in the second half and showed what they could do.

As the game opened up, it suited them more and more, and as their opposition grew ragged, we see some really super glimpses of Sarri-ball at its best. There was one passage of play, starting with cool touches from Emerson and Kovacic down the left, that almost lead to a memorable Willian goal.

That’s what we’ve seen all season when given time and space, and it’s a tantalising glimpse of how our football could look in the right circumstances. But all too often this season we’ve played without any of the dynamism or thrust we had tonight.

With a renewed confidence and some really quality signings we can see this project working. But without the players or the backing of the fans, it will be very hard for Sarri to succeed, and if he sees an easy move to Juventus now as an escape route, it may be hard to stop him going.

If he does stick around, let’s hope the player and fans can use this positive energy to get behind him and keep up this momentum.
