Hooker Tom Youngs to serve three-week ban for shoulder charge in Leicesters defeat by Exeter

Captain Tom Youngs to serve three-week ban for shoulder charge in Leicester’s defeat by Exeter

  • Tom Youngs to miss three of relegation-threatened Leicester’s last four matches
  • The hooker was sent off for striking in the Tigers’ heavy defeat by Exeter
  • Six-week sanction was halved for good record, remorse and mitigating factors

Tom Youngs will miss three of Leicester’s four relegation run-in matches after he was banned for a shoulder charge.

The Tigers captain pleaded guilty at an RFU disciplinary hearing, having been sent off last Saturday when he struck Exeter’s Ollie Atkins at a ruck.

The panel halved the six-week sanction for the act due to Youngs’ good record, remorse and ‘off-field mitigating factors’.

He will now miss crucial games against Newcastle, Bristol and Harlequins while serving the ban.

However, he will be able to return for the Bath match to end the season. His brother Ben will miss the rest of the season after surgery on a shoulder injury.

Leicester are currently 10th, just five points above bottom-placed Falcons, who they play on Friday.
