Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 3 wickets in match 43 of IPL 2019 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chasing 176 runs, the visitors were given a flying start as openers Ajinkya Rahane (34) and Sanju Samson (22) added 53 runs in 5.2 overs. However, RR lost both their openers in quick succession once Dinesh Karthik introduced spin from both ends. Rahane was dismissed by Sunil Narine whereas Samson was castled by Piyush Chawla. KKR clawed their way back further when Narine castled RR captain Steve Smith for 2. Ben Stokes (11) and Stuart Binny (11) were dismissed cheaply. However, young Riyan Parag rose to the occasion as he scored a match-winning knock of 47 runs from 31 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes). Jofra Archer’s cameo (27 not out off 12 balls) ensured RR reached home with 4 balls to spare. With this win, RR still stay in contention for the playoffs.
