ITTF, QTTA mourn death of young Qatar star Al Najjar – The Peninsula Qatar

World governing body the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) President Khalil Al Mohannadi yesterday paid tribute to young Abdulrahman Mohsen Al Najjar (pictured) who died on Sunday 10 days after sustaining serious injuries in a car crash.

In a story posted on, the world governing was ‘deeply saddened’ by the news of Al Najjar’s passing away after 10 days in intensive care following a car accident in Doha.

The Qatar U21 player, who represented Al Sadd Club, became the highest ranked player in his country and had an extremely bright future ahead of him.

A very polite and well-mannered man according to his peers and colleagues at the QTTA, Al Najjar was in his second year of a Sport Management degree at Qatar University.

“This was a young man looking to build a successful career in sport and someone very well respected by everyone who came into contact with him, both as a player and as a person,” the post on said.

He was registered to play at the upcoming Liebherr 2019 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in Budapest between 21-28 April, the report added. Shocked and saddened by his tragic passing, the whole ITTF family will honour his memory in Budapest and beyond.

“The ITTF sends its deepest condolences to the family of Abdulrahman Al Najjar, to the whole Qatar Table Tennis Association and to Khalil Al-Mohannadi, President of the Qatar and Arab Table Tennis Federations and Deputy ITTF President,” the post added.

Al Mohannadi said in a statement that the table tennis family and sports fraternity would have a difficult time to bear the loss of ‘most promising player in Qatar’.

The Aspire Academy tweeted: “AspireAcademy mourns the passing away of its graduate and Qatar NT table tennis player Abdulrahman Al Naggar. May Allah bless his soul and give his family the needed strength and patience during this difficult time of sadness.”
